Mt. Pinatubo was a long dormant volcano that exploded violently in 1990 and briefly affected global weather when it released tons of ash into the atmosphere. The explosion took away 500 feet off the top of the mountain. Mt. Pinatubo is approximately 30 miles north of former US Air Force Base – Clark Field.
