Long Way Home

June 1999

Pete and Michelle Sweetser are friends whom I have met through the Camel Trophy Mailing List. Pete, from Manchester England, and Michelle, originally from Chicago, Ill, decided to drive from England to Michelle's home in Chicago acrss the Asian continent. Their vehicle for the trip was an ex-Camel Trophy Defender 110 support vehicle from the 1993 Camel Trophy event in Sabah-Malaysia.

Along with a 1997ex-Camel Discovery, they left London and traveled overland through Morrocco, Eastern Europe, Turkey, India, Tibet, China and southeast Asia. Their 110 was then shipped to the United States where they finished their trip. We were lucky enough to have these great people stay with us in Colorado and share some of their stories from the road.

Admiring the view from high atop La Lung La Pass in Tibet.

The road to Baghdad in Iraq.

Pausing at the top of what is debatably the highest mountain pass in the world, at nearly 6,000 meters above sea level.

A river crossing in Turkey.

Pete and Michelle arrive in Colorado.
